It’s a Zen thing… you don’t fix turnover by fixing turnover. You can’t stop somebody from walking out the door to a better job. What you can do is hire the right people to begin with, and then treat them the way you, yourself, want to be treated. It’s pretty much just that simple.
It’s a matter of getting to know your employees as people; letting them know your door is open to them; making them feel like integral parts of the team. It’s all basic stuff that too often gets lost when company leadership plays the “Power Game.” The old stuff… the “My Way or the Highway” doesn’t cut it anymore. Follow the basic principles laid down in the presentation, and you will become that boss that everybody wants to work for.
How to Create a Team Culture
Everybody… I say again… Everybody wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves. That’s why team sports fascinate us. Watching a group of people, all from different backgrounds, with different skill levels, get together to make magic. It’s not that hard to get everybody to buy in. What you need to do is create an overarching goal that everybody wants to move toward.
In football, it was getting to the Super Bowl, winning, and getting the chance to hoist that beautiful trophy. Your business will have a different goal. But remember, it has to be something that Everybody… there’s that word again… can point toward, and work toward!
